Is connecting my wallet to joinlist safe?

Yes! we use Sign In With Ethereum (SIWE) behind the scenes to handle all wallet connections. SIWE is an open-sourced authentication standard (EIP-4361) developed by Spruce Systems. Their partners include the Ethereum Foundation and ENS, with support from companies such as MetaMask, Rainbow, and snapshot to name a few. You can see the list of supporters and partners on their landing page here: https://login.xyz. You can checkout their twitter here: https://twitter.com/signinwitheth

Why do I have to sign a message to connect with joinlist?

Signing a message just mean you are in fact the owner of the wallet. Once you successfully verify your wallet with us, we simply store your wallet address and log you into our app, so you can freely enter joinlist without signing any messages again. You can think of SIWE as a form of Sign in with a social account, such as Sign In With Google, or Sign in With Facebook.

Why don’t you just use “Connect Wallet” like every other app?

The connect wallet you see on other dapps give the website permission to see your balance, wallet activity, and the ability to send you transactions. The “Connect Wallet” DOES NOT verify you are the owner. And verifying you are the owner is a super important step to completing a presale registration. We wanted to remove the step of connecting wallet to allow for a more smooth experience. Connecting a wallet, then signing a message is just too many clicks for our liking. Read this nice little reddit thread to understand why apps require signatures.

Im afraid of connecting my wallet on joinlist, why should I trust you?

This is a valid concern as joinlist is relatively new (only a month old from writing this!). How we’re different is we only ask to sign a message once, to verify you are in fact the owner of the wallet, using the EIP-4361 standard (SIWE) mentioned above. We will never send a transaction your way. We’re also open-sourcing our app soon!

Who is the team behind joinlist

Little old me, Sam Barrowclough. I’ve been building apps for the past 10 years. And most notably built a marketplace for Immutable X called snoopy.to, had multiple grants from Immutables Developer program (auctionx & envelope), and made some questionable Tropical House Music back in the day.

Why are you free?

We’re free because we’re currently in private beta and still figuring the business model. And charging doesn’t feel right while we’re still building out the app, as you can expect some bugs along the way. But i’ll be right next to you when bugs do occur, to quickly patch them up. We’ll be DMing each other while things are running - i’ll pretty much be a third wheel in your team to make sure everything goes smoothly. Here’s a quick snapshot of what to expect 👀

How will you make money?

Good question! There are 3 main areas I am thinking on how to monetise joinlist. It’s still up for debate what direction it goes in, but I want Joinlist to stay free for individuals, and paid for teams who can afford it.

  1. Advanced Features

Create advanced features such as team management, custom domains, choose from multiple designs, one button click to email the list of entries etc. The core of the app will be free; collecting a list of wallets, but we will charge based on team/advanced functionality.

  1. Collector Pass

Once Joinlist gets to a critical mass of creators, an option could be to gate access to the list of raffles/allowlist on joinlist. To access this list, you would need a collector pass. This is the model premint took.
